#RaiseHighMadness All-Time Edition

A groundbreaking pioneer in the sport of rowing, Aquil Abdullah added another accolade to his impressive resume on Tuesday, closing out his run to the #RaiseHighMadness All-Time Edition title.
In 2004, Abdullah represented the Buff and Blue on the world stage, becoming the first Black man to compete in an Olympic rowing event when he finished sixth in the doubles sculls competition at the Games in Athens, Greece. That historic feat emerged victorious from a bracket of 32 of the most celebrated teams, athletes and moments in GW Athletics history.
Over the past three weeks, Abdullah and men's rowing knocked off entries from men's water polo (2017 & '18 MAWPC titles), women's swimming and diving (2020 A-10 title), gymnastics (five straight A-10 titles from 1998-2002) via social media voting to earn a spot in Monday's final, where they defeated softball (2019 A-10 co-champions) in a tight tally of more than 1,000 votes.
Along the way, Abdullah reflected on his time in Foggy Bottom. The GW Athletic Hall of Famer said learning how to Raise High as a member of the Buff and Blue prepared him to be an Olympian, Henley Royal Regatta Diamond Sculls champion and Pan American Games medalist.
Thanks to everyone who supported #RaiseHighMadness All-Time Edition to help honor some of the best and brightest to ever represent GW Athletics!
