WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball begins February with a trip to Philadelphia, to meet Saint Joseph's Wednesday on Hawk Hill at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
SOPHOMORE STANDOUT
Christian Jones has led GW in scoring each of the last two games, the first two times he's done so this year after doing so five games during his redshirt freshman campaign a year ago. Jones has scored double figures in three-straight games, five of the last seven and seven of nine A-10 games, averaging 11.7 ppg vs. conference foes, shooting 46% overall and 42.9% on 3-pointers.
Notably, Jones also has tallied 4.1 apg and a sterling 2.3 assist-to-turnover ratio during league play, ranking sixth and eighth vs. conference foes, respectively. Jones has improved in nearly every statistical category from his All-Rookie campaign, improving his scoring by 2.2 ppg, FG% by 4.4% and 3-point shooting by 4%.
STRIKING A BALANCE
GW is tied for ninth nationally with five players averaging double figures so far this season, trailing eight teams with six. All nine regular rotation players are putting up at least 5.5 ppg while playing less than 28.0 mpg, tied for the most such players in the country with five other schools.
GW has had at least one player average at least 27.0 mpg every year since 1989-90. This year is the second-straight season that no player has averaged 30.0 mpg, something that had been done every year since 2008-09.
A LOOK AT THE HAWKS
Saint Joseph's has run off three wins in a row to move to 6-3 in the league and in double-bye position at the league's halfway point. The Hawks are coming off a pair of road wins at Loyola Chicago and La Salle, and are looking to improve to 4-1 on their home floor in league play.
Jaden Glover-Toscano is the team's leading scorer at 15.6 ppg, ranking ninth in the league. Derek Simpson averages 13.0 ppg and Dasear Haskins posts 11.2 ppg to give the Hawks three double-digit scorers. Simpson is fourth in the league with 4.7 assists per game while Glover-Toscano is fourth in the A-10 in 3-point percentage (35.8). Justice Ajogbor holds down the interior with a league-best 2.36 blocks per game, ranking 13th nationally.
