WASHINGTON – First-year Head Coach Matt Klampert and the GW softball team have announced the program's 2026 schedule, featuring a total of 46 games spread across eight Atlantic 10 series, three early-season tournaments and a collection of mid-year non-conference opportunities.
"We are excited to get going with the 2026 campaign," said Klampert. "Our preseason slate matches us up against many opponents who will be similar to those we face in the Atlantic 10. We believe the consistency in competition will allow us to create a good rhythm as we progress through the season."
The Klampert era opens Friday, Feb. 6, as GW begins play at the UNCW Tournament with a 1:30 p.m. matchup against Kennesaw State. Opening weekend in Wilmington, N.C., features five games, including a Friday evening contest against host UNCW. The Revolutionaries return Saturday, Feb. 7, for a rematch against UNCW and a meeting with Appalachian State, before closing the weekend Sunday, Feb. 8, with a second matchup against Kennesaw State.
The early non-conference schedule also includes a trip to Rock Hill, S.C., for the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament (Feb. 20-22), with games against Presbyterian, Winthrop (host) and Mount St. Mary's. It then finishes in Orlando, Fla., at the Charge on Classic (Feb. 27-March 1) – the third of three five-gave tournaments GW will be featured in, with matchups vs. Dartmouth, Florida A&M, Wagner and host UCF.
GW's A-10 and home openers coincide on Saturday, March 7, when the Revolutionaries welcome the reigning A-10 Tournament Champions, Saint Louis, back to the GW Softball Field for a three-game series. The Revolutionaries will play a three-game series against all eight A-10 rivals in this year's nine-team league.Â
At home, GW hosts A-10 foes Saint Louis (March 7-8), George Mason (March 14-15), Saint Joseph's (April 11-12) and Rhode Island (April 25-26). GW's road series in conference come against Dayton (March 21-22), Fordham (March 28-29), Loyola Chicago (April 18-19) and St. Bonaventure (May 2-3).
The Buff & Blue return 11 student-athletes from last year's 33-win team, including A-10 All-Conference First Team member Ashley Corpuz, and A-10 All-Rookies Kaylee Layfield and Emi Todoroki. GW brings back an experienced pitching staff with over 200 innings returning from 2025, headlined by Cece Smith, who had 115 strikeouts and a team-best 1.22 WHIP last year, and two-time A-10 Pitcher of the Week in 2025, Sophia Torreso.Â
The 2026 A-10 Championship will be hosted by Saint Louis, May 6-10. The tournament will feature the top six teams in the A-10 fighting for one automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Championship. Â
