Cross Country Contends in Trials of Miles Opening Night

LEESBURG, Va.- The GW cross country team kicked off its fall season on Friday evening in Leesburg, competing against the DMV's best in Georgetown, Johns Hopkins and Maryland on the course alongside GW. The GW women (49) earned third behind Hopkins (42) and Maryland (46) but ahead of Georgetown (99), while the GW men took second (45) in between Georgetown (24) and Johns Hopkins (51).
NOTABLES:
· Sophomore Charles Mbuthia began his sophomore season on a high note, earning the No. 4 overall finish and the top for GW in the 6k with a new 18:22.7 personal-best.
· Otto Erhart (18:38.4) and Joe Fahrney (18:39) joined Mbuthia in the top-10 finishes of the evening.
· On the women's side, running the 5k, Hadley Mahoney led the Buff & Blue with a fourth-place finish in a new personal-best 17:56.6 to begin her second collegiate season.
· The GW women also placed three top-10 finishers with Una Boylan (18:02.8) and Julia Shanes (18:17.6) joining Mahoney on the leaderboard.
· First-years Olivia Teates, Maya Van Horn, Molly Weber, Otto Erhart and transfer Kaitlyn Segreti all ran in Buff & Blue for the first time on Friday evening.
