WASHINGTON - GW softball's Anna Reed and Kaylee Layfield were selected as the A-10 Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Monday. Both were instrumental in GW's 4-1 week, which included the program's second-ever sweep of Fordham this past weekend.Â
Reed, who now owns the conference's top ERA (2.22), was excellent in her four starts last week. The graduate transfer from San Luis Obispo, Calif., totaled 21.0 innings pitched with a 0.67 ERA. Reed went the distance twice, including a nine-strikeout performance in her win at Towson, and a two-hit, complete-game shutout in the series finale vs. Fordham. Reed's 19 strikeouts last week included her 100th strikeout of the season and her 300th career strikeout, both of which came in Sunday's finale against the Rams. This is Reed's second A-10 Pitcher of the Week award this season, after winning her first on Feb. 10 following her performance in opening weekend.
Layfield led the Revolutionaries last week with six RBI in her newfound third spot in the order. Layfield closed the last four games with a .444 on-base percentage and a 5-15 (.333 avg.) week at the plate. The rookie from Yorba Linda, Calif., reached base in every game, and had her top performance last week vs. Towson, batting 3-4 with three RBI. Playing second base, Layfield also submitted a spotless defensive week with 10 assists, three putouts and zero errors. This is Layfield's second A-10 weekly award; she was also selected as the A-10 Player of the Week on Feb. 24.
With just 10 games remaining in the regular season, GW hits the road for a three-game series at Saint Joseph's, beginning with a doubleheader Friday (12:00 p.m.) before the series finale on Saturday (12:00 p.m.). Â
