
Fowkes Set for 5K at NCAA East First Rounds

WASHINGTON – Following a solid spring season, Ryan Fowkes will represent the Buff & Blue on Friday at the NCAA East First Rounds hosted in Lexington, Ky. Fowkes will compete in the 5K race which is slated for 8:10 p.m.
Fowkes had an impressive spring season that featured him setting the program record in the 5K with a time of 13:49.83 at the Raleigh Relays. His mark broke the previous record of 14:14.41 by nearly 26 seconds set by Thomas Sand at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational during the 2023 season. Fowkes holds or is part of five outdoor track records at GW, including his historic pace in the 5K. He has also set the program benchmark in the 800m (1:51.38), the 1500m (3:43.14), was part of GW's 4x800m relay team that tallied a 7:37.59 and the distance medley team that recorded a 9:44.48.
Along with his program records, Fowkes has also been an Atlantic 10 All-Conference finisher in the 1500m during each of the past three seasons. Fowkes clocked a time of 3:48.15 to finish second during the 2024 championship meet, the second time he has finished runner up in as many seasons.
Fowkes, who is the lone Revolutionary competing in the NCAA East First Rounds, must finish top five in his heat, or be one of the two fastest remaining runners to advance in the postseason. The NCAA Outdoor National Championships are slated to take place from June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore. Fowkes' race on Friday will be available to stream on ESPN+ along with an up-to-date live stats feed.
