LYNCHBURG, Va. - GW tennis narrowly fell to Sam Houston State on Saturday morning, 4-3. The Buff & Blue grabbed the doubles point in comeback fashion, but was unable to continue the momentum in singles.
After falling at No. 2 doubles, GW earned a pair of 7-5 wins at No. 1 (Stella Wiesemann and Gabriela Giraldo) and No. 3 (Alejandra Ramirez and Solange Skeene) to grab the early advantage.
Wiesemann won her singles match at No. 1 in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) and was joined in the win column by Victoria Sasinka at No. 3 (6-2, 6-1). The match came down to the third set in No. 6 singles where Rena Ishiguchi fell, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
GW will wrap up the weekend with a match against Liberty on Sunday at 12 p.m.
