WASHINGTON - GW softball first-year pitcher/utility Cece Smith has been named the A-10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Smith has now won an A-10 weekly award in back-to-back weeks following being named A-10 Pitcher of the Week last week.
Smith has been steady in the circle all season for GW, but especially as of late. In the last six games, Smith is 5-1 with a 2.55 ERA, a 27/7 strikeout-to-walk ratio and two complete game shutouts. Smith has allowed just nine earned runs and four extra-base hits in the past six games, spanning 24.2 innings.
The Atlanta native had multiple standout performances in the last six games. In the series finale at UC Davis, Smith threw a complete-game shutout, going 5.0 innings, striking out five and only allowing four hits. Smith stayed hot as GW returned home to face UMES, nearly throwing a no-hitter and finishing the complete-game shutout with just one hit allowed, zero walks and 10 strikeouts. Smith then earned two wins in GW's series win vs. Loyola Chicago, allowing seven earned runs in 10 innings.
Smith and the Revolutionaries are back at the GW Softball Field for a pair of midweek games, starting today at 2 p.m. vs. Towson on ESPN+.
