WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team completed the trifecta of A-10 Weekly Awards as Cece Smith was named A-10 Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Smith was selected as Pitcher of the Week for GW's four games last week (through game two vs. UC Davis) and continued to deal on Monday with a complete game shutout in the finale vs. UC Davis.
In last week's four games, Smith made two starts and appeared in the circle in all four games, totalling a 1.79 ERA in 15.2 innings of work. Smith allowed just four earned runs on 13 hits with a 13/7 strikeout-to-walk ratio, and was credited with both of GW's wins during the week.
On Monday, Smith made the start in the series finale vs. UC Davis and had one of the best performances of her career. She completed a shutout five innings, allowing just four hits and one walk while punching out five on GW's way to an 8-0 win.
Smith is currently second in the A-10 in both wins (7) and ERA (1.92) and third in strikeouts (45).
It's the third weekly award won by the Revolutionaries this season - each won by a first-year player. Infielder Mandy Lauth won A-10 Player of the Week after her collegiate debut on Opening Weekend, and outfielder Paige Hayward won A-10 Rookie of the Week in the last set of awards.
Smith and the Revolutionaries are back home on Wednesday to host UMES for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader, with coverage of both games available on ESPN+.Â
