WASHINGTON - The 22nd season of George Washington softball is on the horizon as the program released its 54-game 2024 regular season schedule on Wednesday. The schedule features 28 non-conference games, 26 A-10 battles and 29 home games on The Vern.Â
Under the leadership of head coach Chrissy Schoonmaker (3rd season), the Revolutionaries open their 2024 campaign at the Kickin' Chicken Classic on Friday, Feb. 9 in Conway, S.C. with opening day matchups against Bucknell and the 2023 Big South Champion, Campbell.
GW's home opener comes just six games into the season when it hosts Canisius for a doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The Feb. 20 home start is set to be the earliest home opener played in GW softball history, scheduled one calendar day before GW's next earliest home game, which was played on Feb. 21, 2004 in the program's second season.
The Buff & Blue will be battle tested by the start of A-10 play after playing through 23 consecutive non-conference games to begin the year, which includes four games against ACC opponents (Syracuse, Boston College & two games at North Carolina). The non-conference slate is highlighted by a trip out west over spring break to play a three-game series against University of California Davis, where GW will bring nine California natives back to their home state.
The Revolutionaries welcome the first of five A-10 opponents to the GW Softball Field when Loyola Chicago visits for a three-game set on March 16-17. GW will also host Saint Louis (March 29-30), Saint Joseph's (April 13-14) and UMass (April 27-28) for three-game series, and George Mason for a midweek doubleheader (April 2).Â
On the road and in the conference, GW will make stops at Dayton (March 23-24), Fordham (April 6-7), Rhode Island (April 20-21) and St. Bonaventure (May 4-5) .
The 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship is scheduled for May 8-12, hosted by Fordham in the Bronx, N.Y.
