Men's Basketball Falls Flat at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. - An uncharacteristically poor shooting day, plus a second-half heater from Rahsool Diggins sent GW men's basketball to its first loss in four games in an 81-67 setback to Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon.
A tie game at half led to a UMass runaway in the second stanza, mainly courtesy of Diggins. After GW took a 36-34 lead on a Garrett Johnson 3-pointer 45 seconds into the half, Diggins scored eight-straight points to spark a 17-0 run for the Minutemen over the next five-plus minutes.
GW would get no closer than 12 the remainder of the game as UMass added separate 8-0 and 7-0 runs later in the half to pad its cushion.

UMass ended up shooting 65.5% in the second half and 51% for the game while GW suffered through its first sub-40 percent shooting day of the season at 36.2%. Diggins paced the Minutemen with 25 points, 18 of which came after halftime.
Johnson led three Revolutionaries in double figures with 16 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Darren Buchanan Jr. added 15 points and eight rebounds while Maximus Edwards double-doubled with 13 points and 11 boards.
James Bishop IV saw his streak of four-straight 20-point efforts come to an end with just eight points on a tough 2-of-14 day from the field.
