WASHINGTON - The George Washington men's water polo team is back in the pool this weekend for three games on the West Coast. The Revolutionaries will battle No. 15 Loyola Marymount on Friday night (9 p.m. ET) in Los Angeles, before taking on Division III No. 10 LaVerne (12 p.m. ET) and Concordia Irvine (3 p.m. ET) as part of the La Verne Mini on Saturday. All three games will be streamed live, and the links can be found on the schedule page.
BACK IN THE W COLUMN
The Revolutionaries picked up their second win of the season on Sunday when they took care of business against Chapman, 13-10. Mateus Stellet paced GW with a game-high five points on four goals and one assist, while the Revolutionaries' goal-leader Viktor Jovanovic tacked on three goals, adding to his season total of 15. Goalkeeper Luca Castorina posted a .600 save percentage while matching a season high with 15 saves.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
Loyola Marymount sits at 3-2 entering Friday's competition, with both of its losses coming to top-10 opposition (No. 8 Pepperdine, No. 6 Stanford). In their three wins, however, the Lions have outscored their competition 57-22.
La Verne has lost all six of its contests this season, which includes games against No. 8 Long Beach State and No. 14 Loyola Marymount. The Leopards nearly took down Fresno State, keeping the game tied through overtime and into a sudden-death period, but Fresno State broke the tie and pulled out the victory, 16-15.
Concordia Irvine has begun the year at 3-5, but its season has been a tale of two tournaments. The Golden Eagles began the year at 0-4 after falling to four top-10 teams (No. 9 Long Beach State, No. 7 UC Santa Barbara, No. 4 Stanford and No. 3 UCLA) at the Triton Invitational, but they bounced back well going 3-1 against some of the best D-III teams in the country at the Redlands Tournament, beating No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, RV Austin College, and No. 10 Whittier, while falling to No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following the West Coast trip, GW will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 23, for its home opener and first look at an MAWPC opponent when Bucknell visits the Smith Center. Game time is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be streamed on the GW men's water polo Facebook page.
