NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – GW sophomores Austin Brotemarkle and Sarah Mitchell have been named the A-10 Men's and Women's Performer of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Wednesday.
Last Saturday, Brotemarkle tallied an 8K time of 25:11.90 at the Navy Invitational to lead GW to a second-place finish. He finished sixth in the 95-runner field, finishing just behind five runners from Navy who took home the team title. Brotemarkle now has two sixth place finishes on the season, the first coming at the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals where he clocked a PR time of 15:22.22 to help lead GW to its first win of the year.
Mitchell, an All-Conference honoree last season, tallied a sixth-place finish with a 6K time of 22:17.87 at the Navy Invitational. Mitchell's stellar performance helped lead GW to a second-place team finish out of 11 teams at the event. Mitchell is coming off an opening meet where she recorded a 5K time of 18:42.75 to help lead the Buff & Blue to its second perfect score in program history, claiming the team win by a landslide at the Mount St. Mary's 5K Duals.
The GW men's and women's cross country team will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 30, when they compete in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The event has a tentative start time of 9 a.m. in Bethlehem, Pa.
