WASHINGTONÂ - GW men's basketball graduates Brendan Adams and Ricky Lindo Jr. were center stage for the city's professional team this week, participating in pre-NBA Draft workouts with the Washington Wizards.Â
Adams, who earned his MBA from GW in May, relished the opportunity to compete on a professional stage.
"This moment means everything to me," Adams said. "It's an opportunity I've dreamed about since I was a kid and this is the first step in that process. I love where I'm at right now."
Fans and scouts alike took to Adams following his breakthrough final campaign in which he set career highs in nearly every category en route to being named the A-10 Chris Daniels Most Improved Player and earning a spot on the All-Conference Third Team and All-Academic team. He credited a new coaching staff - the third of his collegiate career - with being able to unlock his potential.
"Coach Caputo helped me grow tremendously, especially in concepts and the system he brought to GW," Adams said. "His perspective on the game, as well as all the assistant coaches, gave me a great year of learning and I think that's why I was able to make the jump I did."
Adams averaged 17.4 points per game for GW this past season and teamed up with James Bishop IV as the third-highest scoring duo in the country for the A-10's top offense. He also shot an efficient 47% from the floor and 38% from 3-point range, something that he believes will help any team at the next level.
"I think my game will translate well," Adams said. "My size and athleticism are pretty clear, but I want to showcase my shooting ability and consistency. It's tough and challenging testing your conditioning, but it's really an opportunity."
Lindo, meanwhile, took pride in being able to suit up for his hometown team. The D.C. native and GW graduate with a degree in sociology has supported the team since his younger days.
"This opportunity is amazing," Lindo said. "I grew up a Wizards fan and went to playoff games. It's my hometown team. I'm just grateful for the Wizards to give me this opportunity to showcase my skills."
A stat-stuffing, two-way contributor during his time in Buff & Blue, Lindo capped off his GW career by ranking fifth in the A-10 in rebounds and double-doubles and seventh in blocks. His multi-faceted talent has caught the eye of those at the pro level as he admitted that he wants to mold himself as a "3 and D" type player.Â
"I envision myself as whatever the coach needs me to play," Lindo said. "I'm just trying to demonstrate I'm a versatile player both defensively and offensively. I'll do whatever the team needs me to do to win the game."
Lindo's career featured numerous twists and turns following his graduation from Wilson (now Jackson-Reed) High School in the District. Similar to Adams, he also played for three coaches at two schools but was appreciative of the lessons he learned along the way.
"My game has matured a lot (over five years)," Lindo said "I've been around a lot of great players and played against a lot of talented players. I was able to learn a lot from them and implement them in my game. I was also able to be coached by a lot of great coaches and I was grateful to learn from all of them."
The NBA Draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 22 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.Â
