PENNSAUKEN, N.J. -Â In its first team appearance at the NCAA Championship, George Washington women's rowing earned a 20th-place finish following the final races on Sunday morning.
The Buff & Blue, which earned its first A-10 Championship in program history two weeks ago, posted the best finish by place (20th) and total points (17) by an Atlantic 10 school since UMass in 2015.Â
Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year Marci Robles' crews performed admirably on Sunday with the V4 and V8 competing in the D Final while the 2V8 competed in the C Final by virtue of its strong showing in Saturday's semifinal.
The V4 was up first on Sunday and earned a point for the team score, wrapping up its championship with a fourth-place finish (22nd overall) in a time of 8:18.182. The 2V8 followed with a sixth-place finish in its final, crossing in a time of 7:08.841. The 18th-place finish overall for the 2V8 netted GW 10 points toward its team score.
The V8 then finished off the Buff & Blue's inaugural team showing with a third-place finish in its final, posting a time of 6:48.275 that was similar in pace to Saturday's performance. The finish gave GW six points in the team score column.
The three results were all equal to or better than the projected seeds that George Washington received entering the event. The Buff & Blue topped local foe Navy as well as Jacksonville in the team field, tying the second-highest finish by an A-10 school at the national event all-time.
