Ishiguchi to join the program from IMG Academy
WASHINGTON – GW women's tennis Head Coach George Rodriguez has announced that Rena Ishiguchi will join the program next fall. It's Rodriguez's third addition to the GW program after being introduced as head coach last summer. A native of Japan, Ishiguchi comes to GW after six years at the IMG Academy in Florida.
"I'm proud to bring Rena Ishiguchi to GW," said Rodriguez. "I love that she is used to successfully juggling a rigorous travel tennis schedule and vigorous academics. Rena has some big wins and will add depth to the team. In addition, she brings passion, heart and dedication, which will blend perfectly with our program.
"She brings a strong baseline game and a high tennis IQ," Rodriguez continued. "She has a lot of growth left, and it will be exciting to watch as she develops as a player at the collegiate level."
Ishiguchi comes to GW as a level 6 singles and doubles champion in Florida, a level 5 singles and doubles finalist, a level 5 doubles champion and a level 4 singles champion.
"I chose GW because they have an amazing tennis program and coach, and GW has very reputable academic programs," said Ishiguchi.
