Chambliss Named EAGL Senior Gymnast of the Year

Graduate student caps GW career with major EAGL recognition
Deja Chambliss will cap her memorable career in Buff & Blue being named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Senior Gymnast of the Year, the conference announced following the conclusion of Saturday's EAGL Championship. It's the second-straight season that Chambliss earned a major EAGL award, after being named Gymnast of the Year in 2022.
Cami Drouine-Allaire was the last GW gymnast named Senior Gymnast of the Year in 2018.
Chambliss led GW for the second-straight season with four All-EAGL Team selections, earning First Team on vault, floor and in the all-around and Second Team honors on beam. The Chesterfield, Va., native was also named to the All-EAGL Scholastic Team for the fifth-straight year and was nominated for the 2023 AAI Award, awarded to the most outstanding senior gymnast in the nation.
Chambliss finished the regular season first overall in EAGL on vault with a 9.890 NQS after the graduate student was crowned the vault champion in seven meets this season, including five consecutive titles from January 28 – February 17.
Additionally, Chambliss finished the regular season second in EAGL in the all-around with a 39.345 NQS. Chambliss won the all-around title four times throughout the regular season and scored a season-high 39.500 at LSU behind a pair of career-high 9.925s on bars and beam.
Throughout her five years with the program, Chambliss has penned her name among the top five in every event in GW's record book. Chambliss equaled the program record on both vault and floor with a pair of 9.950s, she is tied for third all-time on bars with a 9.925, tied for fifth overall on beam with a 9.925 and second overall in the all-around with a personal best 39.600.
