GW and George Mason tangle at 7 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball looks for a season sweep of its Revolutionary Rival as it hosts George Mason on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.
EDWARDS EARNS FOURTH A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR
First-year Maximus Edwards was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Monday after averaging a double-double of 11.0 ppg and 12.0 rpg last week vs. Richmond and Saint Joseph's. Edwards has reached double figures in nine consecutive games, averaging 14.0 ppg and 7.7 rpg during the stretch while shooting 45% from the field and 40% from deep.
He tallied his third career double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds on Wednesday, including tying a school record with 15 defensive rebounds. Edwards paces all A-10 rookies in scoring with 11.0 ppg and is tied at the top in rebounding with 6.4 boards per game. Edwards is one of just five freshmen in the nation to average at least 11.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg while playing 30 minutes per game and the only first-year guard to be doing so.
GW GOES AS JB AND BA GO
James Bishop IV and Brendan Adams enter play on Wednesday as the top-scoring tandem in the A-10 at a combined 38.6 ppg, tied for the third-best duo in the country. Bishop and Adams combined for 68 points last Wednesday vs. Richmond, becoming the first pair of Colonials to score 30 points in the same game since 1971.
This season, when Bishop and Adams combine for at least 35 points, the Colonials are 10-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 in A-10 play. Conversely, when combining for less than 35, GW is 2-9 overall and 0-6 against league competition. Adams (37:16) and Bishop (37:02) currently sit in the top two spots in GW history in single season minutes per game average.
That hasn't stopped their ability to produce as Bishop tops the circuit with 21.0 ppg and Adams sits in fourth at 17.6 ppg. Additionally, Adams is eighth in the A-10 in field goal percentage (47.3%) while Bishop comes in 10th (42.8%).
