Colonials and Hawks square off at 1 p.m.
WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball travels to Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon in search of a season sweep of Saint Joseph's after defeating the Hawks, 92-91 in overtime, 17 days ago at the Smith Center. Tip from Hagan Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m.
RECORDS ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN
GW scored 100 points for the first time in three seasons on Wednesday night vs. Richmond, last doing so in a 107-103 quadruple-overtime victory over Davidson in 2020. The Colonials also made 40 field goals in a game for the first time since a 103-77 drubbing of Richmond in Feb. 2018.
Brendan Adams and James Bishop IV became the first pair of Colonials to score 30+ points in the same game since Walt Szczerbiak (33) and Ronnie Nunn (33) on Feb. 20, 1971 vs. Cincinnati.
ADAMS' 3-POINT DELUGE
Brendan Adams scored 30 of his career-high 35 points after halftime on Wednesday, including 11 points and three 3-pointers in the extra sessions. Adams' nine triples surpassed the previous school record of eight shared by Kwame Evans in 1996 and Greg Collucci in 2001.
Adams was 5-of-5 from beyond the arc in the second half and hit 3-of-4 from deep in overtime, including the record-breaker with 2:54 left to put GW up 101-94. The Baltimore native has now gone over 30 points twice in the last five games, also doing so with 32 points vs. Saint Joseph's on Jan. 28 when he hit seven from beyond the arc. Following his exploits, Adams ranks second in the A-10 in 3-point percentage at 40.5% and is fourth with 2.58 made 3s per game. His 62 3s this year are nearly as many as his first four years combined (81).
JBIV SETS THE STANDARD
James Bishop IV was dominant as well on Wednesday, securing his first career double-double with 33 points and 10 assists. Bishop became the first Colonial to post a points/assists double-double since Armel Potter in 2020. He also provided just the seventh 30-point/10-assist game in the NCAA this season and the first at GW since at least 1970.
In the process, Bishop went over 500 points for a second-straight season and moved up to 23rd on GW's all-time scoring list with 1,338 points in 71 games. He is one of three players in the country this year to average at least 21.0 ppg and 5.0 apg, joining Memphis' Kendric Davis and Marshall's Taevion Kinsey.
A LOOK AT THE HAWKS
Saint Joseph's sits just a half-game behind the Colonials in the A-10 standings at 6-6, having won six of their last eight with the lone setbacks coming at GW by one in overtime and vs. La Salle.
The Hawks are paced by a high-scoring trio of Erik Reynolds II (18.2 ppg), Cameron Brown (14.2) and Lynn Greer III (10.2). GW held Brown in check in the first meeting with just nine points, but Greer erupted for 31 points and 11 rebounds on 13-of-22 shooting. Reynolds added 17 points and four assists before fouling out and Kacper Klaczek had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Brown (39.4%) and Reynolds (37.4%) rank third and fifth, respectively, in the A-10 in 3-point percentage. The Hawks take 45% of their shots from beyond the arc, 28th most in the country, and get 37% of their offense from 3-pointers, 34th in the NCAA.
