10/18/2023 7:17:00 PM | Men's Soccer
WASHINGTON - First-year Joe Liebe got on the board in the 52nd minute with his first collegiate goal, but the George Washington men's soccer team (2-9-4, 0-5-1 A-10) fell to Longwood (5-4-3, 0-3-1 Big South), 2-1, in the final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday afternoon at the GW Soccer Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
52nd Minute: Liebe, standing at the top of the six-yard box, settled a cross, and despite multiple Longwood defenders in the area, hit a volley with his left foot past the Longwood goalkeeper. Sean Vaghedi, who sent in the cross, and Nacho Alastuey, who made the leadup pass to the cross, were credited with assists on the play.
54th Minute: Longwood found an equalizer just two minutes after GW took the lead, when Bill Wilkenson sent in an out-curling cross to Ethan Stevenson, who volleyed the cross out of the air and into the back of the net.
78th Minute: Longwood's Miles Cooper took the ball from the half-way line and beat multiple GW defenders on his way to scoring the eventual match-winner.
