WASHINGTON - Entering the final two weeks of the regular season, the George Washington men's soccer team (2-8-4, 0-5-1) readies for a pair of matches. GW welcomes Longwood (4-4-3, 0-3-1 Big South) to the GW Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon (3 p.m.) for the final non-conference contest of the regular season, ahead of traveling to Philadelphia to battle La Salle (5-6-3, 1-3-2 A-10) on Saturday evening (7 p.m.) in GW's final road contest of the regular season. Coverage of both matches will be available on ESPN+.
MORE ON SAVILLE
First-year Louis Saville scored both of GW's goals in Saturday's 3-2 loss at Duquesne, marking the highest point total from a Revolutionary in a single match this season (four points). They were Saville's first and second goals of his career, which moved him into fourth place on GW's points leaderboard (five points via two goals and one assist). Saville also became the first GW first-year to score multiple goals in a match since Liam Emson scored twice in GW's 2-1 victory over Davidson on Oct. 19, 2019.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
The Longwood Lancers visit the GW Soccer Field on Wednesday amidst a 1-3-1 stretch, in which they have been held scoreless three times. Most recently, Longwood is coming off a 2-0 loss at USC Upstate. The Lancers will play just their fourth match away from home when they make the trip to D.C. - they are 1-2-0 playing as visitors this year.
The Lancers' top point producer this season is Emilio Segovia, who has six points on two goals and two assists, but has not appeared in a match since mid-September. Behind Segovia, 10 Lancers have multiple points on their statlines, but no one with more than four points. Max Hinke has played all but one game in net for the Lancers and has a .735 save percentage to go along with his 1.30 goals allowed average.
GW and Longwood last met in October of 2022, which resulted in a 3-2 Lancers' win, however the Buff and Blue lead the all-time series against Longwood, 6-4-0.
With just two league matches remaining, La Salle's 1-3-2 conference record has the Explorers in 11th place in the A-10 standings with five points. The Explorers have lost three-straight A-10 matches, at the hands of Loyola Chicago, Saint Louis and St. Bonaventure.
La Salle has three players tied with a team-high three goals: sophomore Americo Pereira, first-year Yuval Nimrodi and redshirt-junior Sean Yurgel. Redshirt-senior Drew Blackwell has a team-high five assists and is one of just two Explorers with more than one assist. Filip Sabatti has played all but one game in net for the Explorers and sports a .721 save percentage with a 1.31 goals allowed average.
With a win on Saturday, GW would even the all-time series against La Salle, which the Revolutionaries currently trail, 10-11-3. The Explorers do not play a mid-week match, so their sights are already set on Saturday.
LOOKING AHEAD
Following Saturday's match at La Salle, GW will return to D.C. ahead of its regular-season finale against George Mason on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Revolutionaries will celebrate both Senior Day and Alumni Day during the finale, and kickoff at the GW Soccer Field is scheduled for 3 p.m. with match coverage on ESPN+.
