The Buff and Blue welcome Johns Hopkins to the Smith Center for Senior Day
WASHINGTON - After a month-long break from competition, GW swimming and diving returns to the Smith Center pool on Saturday for a dual meet against Johns Hopkins. The meet begins with a diving session at 9 a.m., followed by the Senior Day ceremony and swimming portion of the meet at 11 a.m. Fans can follow along with the action live on the Meet Mobile app.Â
The Colonials are competing for the first time as a team since its mid-season meet at the Big Al Invitational, where they captured third and fifth overall. Spencer Bystrom and Dara Reyblat set a pair of school records in platform diving, and they were joined by Olivia Rosen, as the three qualified for NCAA Diving Zones.
Winter Training Camp:
GW returned from its annual winter training camp earlier this week, after spending 11 days in Florida. The team spent time on the east coast of Florida, training across multiple facilities in both Coral Spring and Pembroke Pines.
Senior Spotlight:
15 seniors and graduate students will be honored at their final home meet on Saturday. This group is one that has already left their mark on the GW swimming and diving program, having won a combined five A-10 Championships since the 2018-19 season. The group of student-athletes includes: Spencer Bystrom, Fiona Berk, Becca Brown, Brendan Conley, Jamie Doak, Caitlin Inall, Zach Hu, Tyler Kawakami, Oscar Madsen, Stine Omdahl Petersen, Grace Olivardia, Marek Osina, Ryan Patterson, Siena Senn and Matthew Whelan.
A Look at the Spring:
Prior to A-10 and NCAA Championship meets, the Buff and Blue are set to compete in three spring meets. GW hosts Johns Hopkins (1/14) this weekend, followed by visits to both Georgetown (1/21) and Virginia (2/3-2/5). The A-10 Championship will be held February 15-18 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, where both the men's and women's teams will be going for their third A-10 Championship in four years.Â
More on the Johns Hopkins:
Like GW, Saturday marks Johns Hopkins first meet in over a month. The Blue Jays are 2-2 (men) and 1-3 (women) in head-to-head scoring meets this season, with a pair of wins over UMBC and a men's victory over William & Mary. Beyond Saturday's dual meet, GW will go up against Johns Hopkins once more as both are a part of the field at Cavalier Invitational, February 3-5.Â
