Yukino Parle takes home top time in her first race for GW
CULPEPER, Va. - George Washington cross country began its 2022 season in strong fashion on Thursday, taking victories in both the men's and women's races of the inaugural Battle of the Georges.
NOTEWORTHY:
• The GW women defeated George Mason by the score of 17-44, while the men took home a 23-39 victory over the Patriots.
• 12 different runners made their Buff & Blue debut on Thursday.
• Graduate student and Boise State transfer Yukino Parle led the way for the GW women, finishing first in a time of 20:27.9 in the 5K race. Thursday was Parle's first race for the Buff & Blue.
• GW took home the top four spots in the women's race. Sophomore Olivia Syftestad checked in second with a time of 20:56.1, followed by first-year Una Boylan, who clocked in with a time of 21:01.1, and first-year Sarah Mitchell finished with a time of 21:24.3.
• The GW women claimed eight of the top 10 finishes on Thursday.
• On the men's side, senior Ryan Fowkes took second place, finishing in a time of 24:30.9 in the 7.7k.
• First-year Jacob Heredia placed third in his debut race for GW, finishing in a time of 24:39.1.
• The men took home seven of the top 10 finishes.
