Buff & Blue edged by Fordham in winner-take-all title game
Earlier in the day, the Buff and Blue had kept their spirited run alive with a 6-3 victory over the Rams to set up the decisive final contest in the double-elimination tournament.
The tournament's top seed after winning the regular season title, GW went 3-2 on the week, including a pair of elimination victories behind the pitching of Sierra Lange and a full-team offensive effort, to get to the high-stakes finale where Fordham charged in front in the opening inning and ultimately claimed the title.
Lange, Alexa Williams and Hannah Eslick were named to the All A-10 Championship Team for their efforts over five games this week.
The two-time A-10 Pitcher of the Year, Lange started all five games as part of a tremendous effort in the circle, highlighted by a Friday shutout vs. Dayton. The veteran right-hander pitched to a 2.08 ERA over 30 1/3 innings and also led the team with five runs scored.Â
Williams slashed .533/.588/.933 for the week with three extra-base hits and six RBIs, while Eslick hit .400 (6-for-15) and drove in four runs.
Before closing the books on a memorable spring, GW will await its available postseason opportunities.

GW 6, Fordham 3: The Buff and Blue won Saturday's opener, boosted by four RBIs from the A-10 Player of the Year Williams.
GW trailed after Fordham plated a first-inning run before making its move in the bottom of the third. The Buff and Blue scored four runs on two hits, three walks and an error to seize control.
Williams drove home two with a single up the middle for the lead, Alessandra Ponce brought home pinch hitter Taylor Puig with a sac fly and Eslick's two-out RBI single pushed the lead to 4-1.
An inning later, Williams struck again, splitting the gap in left-center with a two-run triple to further build the lead.
Lange ceded an unearned run on a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the fifth but recovered to strand the bags full and prevent further damage.Â
In the seventh, she allowed a solo home run and two base runners to bring the potential tying run to the plate before getting a lineout to close out the victory.
Lange went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts. She was also responsible for one of GW's seven hits and scored a run.
Williams finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and the four RBIs to push her season total to 52.
Olivia Vinyard had a hit and scored twice in the victory.
Fordham 6, GW 3: The Rams earned the title behind a 10-hit offensive attack and a strong pitching performance from Devon Miller.
Fordham led the rest of the way after pushing across two runs on just one hit in the top of the first. The Rams took advantage of two hit batters and a walk to grab the early advantage.
GW halved its deficit in the second. Maggie Greco led off with a single and scored on Maddie Spell's two-out shot up the middle.
The Rams answered with Bailey Enoch's solo homer in third and scored twice more in the fourth to push their lead to 5-1.
GW plated single runs in the fourth and sixth on sac flies from Spell and Greco, respectively, but wasn't able to complete the comeback vs. Miller.
Lange took the loss after allowing five runs over 3 1/3 innings before giving way to Maddy Dwyer for the final three-plus frames.
Greco reached twice with a single and an HBP, plus an RBI and a run, while Spell finished 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs. Mia Parker's double to lead off the sixth was her 13th of the season.
