Women’s Tennis Outlasts No. 2 UMass to Advance to A-10 Semifinals

Wiesemann clinches match at No. 1 singles flight
ORLANDO – GW women's tennis secured two of its final three singles matches en route to its 4-3 victory over No. 2 UMass to advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship.
After winning in its top two doubles pairs, GW headed into its singles flights with a 1-0 advantage. Katarina Marinkovikj won her singles match in straight sets, but three UMass singles victories put the No. 2 Minutewomen ahead of the Buff & Blue with two singles matches remaining. Alexandra Vesikallio and Stella Wiesemann went the distance with their opponent, with Wiesemann ultimately clinching the match at the top singles spot.
GW will now face No. 3 Fordham in the semifinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the USTA National Campus.
