Buff & Blue ace went 3-1 with 0.50 ERA last week
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After making four stellar starts in a five-day period last week, GW softball ace Sierra Lange has been named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week.
It's the third time this season and the ninth time in her decorated career that the graduate student from Plano, Texas, has been honored by the conference with the award. She was also named GWsports.com Colonial of the Week for her efforts.
Lange went 3-1 on the week, allowing just two runs across 28 innings pitched with 22 strikeouts. With a pair of shutouts, she's now the program's all-time leader in blankings with 15.
The veteran right-hander started her week with a dominant 4-0 shutout of Hampton on Wednesday in which she allowed just two hits and struck out nine, and then she proceeded to handle all 21 innings on the weekend against Dayton.
After taking a tough-luck 1-0 loss in Saturday's opener vs. the Flyers, she came back with a six-hit shutout in the second game and then picked up another win in Sunday's finale after allowing one run on five hits over seven strong frames.
Lange also contributed offensively over the five total games last week, compiling a .389 on-base percentage out of the leadoff spot with a pair of doubles, two steals and three runs scored.
Heading into this week's action, Lange leads all A-10 pitchers in wins (16), strikeouts (130) and innings pitched (130 1/3), and she's also tops in the league in runs scored with 29.
