McNaughten clinches match in final singles victory
WASHINGTON – Lara McNaughten played hero for GW women's tennis on Tuesday, clinching her singles match in three sets to secure a 4-3 win over ECU.
ECU claimed the doubles point, but three singles victories from Stella Wiesemann, Katarina Marinkovikj and Alexandra Vesikallio helped erase the one-point deficit. ECU claimed two singles points, forcing the match to the final singles matchup between McNaughten and ECU's Sofia Cerezo. McNaughten quickly claimed set one, 6-1, before Cerezo handled set two, 6-4. McNaughten then clinched the tiebreaker to lift GW to a second-straight victory that improved its record to 4-5 on the season.
Wiesemann and Marinkovikj won their doubles match over ECU's leading doubles pair. The duo has now tallied four doubles wins this season.
