Swimming to wrap dual-meet at Pitt, Diving off to Wolfpack Invite
WASHINGTONÂ - GW swimming and diving are gearing up for weekends of competition, as swimming heads to Pittsburgh for the swimming-portion of the dual-meet against Pitt, and Diving heads to NC State for the Wolfpack invite.Â
Paquette Power:
First-year diver Olivia Paquette is off to a sizzling start in her Buff and Blue tenure. In GW's last outing, Paquette updated the oldest GW women's diving record: the three-meter dive. Set by Bobbi Ferraro in 1990, the record to beat has been 307.35 for over 30 years. Paquette, in just her fourth collegiate meet, submitted a 309.00, claiming GW's three-meter diving record as her own. Â
Paquette is no stranger to success on the boards. She was a USA Diving national finalist in both the one and three-meter dives and won the AAU three-meter national title, all in 2019. She also claimed the CIF-SS Division 2 title in 2021. Paqeutte will look to continue her success this weekend at the Wolfpack Invite. Â Â
Dual-Meet Vs. Pitt:Â
For the second-straight weekend, the Colonials are heading to Pittsburgh. This weekend, the swimmers are off to finish what the divers started when they complete the second half of the dual-meet against Pitt.
The dual-meet against Pitt will resume at 4 p.m. on Friday, and the final day of competition starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The divers did well against the power-five opponent, taking second in two of the four events. Jamie Doak nabbed second in the one-meter dive and was just a few points short of the GW record, which she already owns. Paquette also took second in the three-meter in her record-breaking dives.Â
Wolfpack Invite:Â
GW diving is heading to the Wolfpack invite as part of an eight-team field which consists of: GW (diving only), Arizona State, Army, Duke, NC State, Stanford, Penn State and UNC-Asheville (diving only).Â
The Colonials will be up against some of the top swim and dive programs in the country. According to CSCAA November Rankings, Stanford and NC State rank in the top-5 for women's programs, while Stanford, NC State and Arizona State all rank in the top-10 men's programs.
The women's three-meter and men's one-meter dives are due up on Thursday, the women's one-meter and men's three-meter dives will follow on Friday, and the 10-meter dive comes on Saturday. Â
