The NCAA publicly announced the Graduation Success Rate of all Division I institutions today, with George Washington student-athletes achieving a Graduation Success Rate (GSR) of 94, four percent higher than the NCAA Division I average of 90.
GW's men's and women's cross country and track, golf, gymnastics, women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball programs all achieved a perfect 100 score.
"While the world of intercollegiate athletics seems to change every day, there is one thing that will never change for us -- our commitment to student success, graduation and post-Commencement career competencies," said Director of Athletics Tanya Vogel. "It is rewarding to see each and every student graduate and commence into their field of choice, and these sterling GSR numbers are a testament to the academic excellence that our student-athletes, coaches and support staff prioritize."Â
The NCAA developed the Division I Graduation Success Rate in response to college and university presidents who wanted graduation data that more accurately reflected the mobility among all college students today, as the Graduation Success Rate accounts for the academic outcomes of student-athletes who transfer from one institution to another. This GSR data is based on a six-year cohort prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education which includes all scholarship student-athletes across the country who entered college from 2012-2013 through 2015-2016.
The graduation rate is based on a comparison of the number of students who entered college and the number of those who graduated within six years. The GSR provides information for student-athletes who received athletics aid for any period of time during their first year.
