Six-time All-American brings championship pedigree to GW
WASHINGTON - GW cross country and track head coach Terry Weir has hired Samantha Nadel as the program's new assistant coach, it was announced on Monday.
"We are very excited to welcome Sam to the Nation's Capital as the newest member of our GW family," Weir said. "Sam brings a wealth of experience as an athlete, both collegiately and professionally, due to her understanding in balancing high-level academics with high-level athletics. As a coach, her attention and focus on building strong relationships and mentoring fits perfectly with our vision of developing individuals into champions on and off the track."
Nadel joins the Buff & Blue after spending two years as an assistant distance coach at North Carolina. With the Tar Heels, Nadel coached a pair of All-Americans in Paige Hofstad (cross country) and Thomas Ratcliffe (outdoor 5000m) and helped guide the women's cross country program to a 14th-place finish at the national meet last March.
Prior to her time at Carolina, Nadel began her professional career by spending a year training with the Boston Athletic Association in Boston, Mass., while also teaching at the Children's Center of Weston.
During her collegiate career, Nadel was a six-time All-American between her undergraduate career at Georgetown and graduate years at Oregon. With the Hoyas, Nadel racked up three All-America finishes, two cross country All-Region finishes, three Big East titles, eight All-Big East honors and one ECAC title.
She then spent two years at Oregon, earning three more All-America honors. She finished 21st at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championship and went on to place fourth in the 3000m at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships and eighth in the 5000m at the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
A native of Glen Head, N.Y., Nadel received her M.A. in nonprofit management from Oregon in 2018 after graduating from Georgetown with a B.A. in psychology in 2016.
