Duo becomes second and third female qualifiers in program history
WASHINGTON - GW outdoor track and field seniors Margaret Coogan and Kathryn Nohilly have earned the opportunity to represent the Buff & Blue on the national stage as the duo made the cut list for the NCAA East Preliminary in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Coogan and Nohilly both cracked the top 48 that automatically qualify for the event thanks to their tremendous times at the Charm City Last Chance last week. Both surpassed the previous school record with Coogan now owning the mark at 10:19.67 and Nohilly just behind at 10:21.58.
The two will now compete against the region's best at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., hosted by the University of North Florida. The race is set for 6:10 p.m. on Saturday.
The pair of qualifiers continues GW's ascent in the Steeplechase on the national stage as the Colonials have now had at least one regional qualifier in the last three opportunities. Carter Day and Matt Lange made the breakthrough for the Buff & Blue in 2018 before Suzanne Dannheim became the first female qualifier in 2019.
Coogan and Nohilly will now aim to become the first Colonials to advance to the national meet, which is slated for June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
