Fowkes' School Record Highlights Outdoor Track's Season Opener

Sophomore sets new mark in track debut
RALEIGH, N.C. - Sophomore Ryan Fowkes set a new school record in the men's 1500m to highlight GW outdoor track's debut appearance at the Raleigh Relays this weekend, hosted by NC State.
Fowkes, who was appearing on the outdoor track for the first time in the Buff & Blue after having last season wiped out by the pandemic, finished in 3:48.02 to surpass the previous mark of 3:49.18 held by Chris Shaffer since 2017. Fowkes finished 32nd overall, continuing his standout 2021 after earning all-conference honors in cross country earlier in March.
On the women's side, Margaret Coogan set a PR in the 5000m, blowing past her previous best by 19 seconds. Kathryn Nohilly also shattered her previous best in the 3000m Steeplechase by 30 seconds, posting a time of 10:39.39 to finish 21st overall.
