Redshirt junior helped Colonials sweep George Mason
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Sierra Lange of GW softball has been named A-10 Pitcher of the Week in recognition of her excellence in the circle in a dominant four-game sweep of Revolutionary Rival George Mason. The redshirt junior from Plano, Texas, has also been honored as GWsports.com Colonial of the Week for her efforts.
Lange started all four games for the Buff and Blue vs. the Patriots, compiling a 3-0 mark with a 0.88 ERA and 18 strikeouts over 16 innings. She allowed one run or fewer in each outing, combining on a pair of shutouts with teammate Faith Weber.Â
GW's ace closed with a gem in Sunday's finale, allowing one run on five hits with six Ks over a series-high six innings in an eventual 8-2 victory. On Tuesday, she was rewarded with her third A-10 Pitcher of the Week award, and first since Feb. 11, 2019.
Lange continues to shine in all aspects for the Buff and Blue, who checked in at No. 12 nationally in the initial NCAA RPI ratings.
The versatile veteran put together a terrific weekend at the plate at George Mason, posting a .667/.706/1.333 slash line with 10 hits, eight RBIs and four runs scored. She closed the series with three straight multi-hit performances, highlighted by Sunday's opener in which all three of her hits went for extra bases with a pair of triples and a three-run home run in a 9-0 run-rule victory.
For the season, Lange is 7-5 with a 2.12 ERA and 69 strikeouts across 66 innings while also hitting .435 with a team-high 27Â hits, plus 13 RBIs and 19 runs scored, in 18 games. She's helped the Colonials win seven straight games and 12 of 14 to improve to 12-6 on the spring.
GW is scheduled to be back in action on the Mount Vernon Campus this weekend, hosting Saint Louis for four more A-10 contests.
