
Lacrosse Tops Longwood in Overtime Finish

Alana Greene netted the game-winner, giving GW the 11-10 victory.
FARMVILLE, Va. – The George Washington lacrosse team earned an 11-10 overtime victory over Longwood on Saturday afternoon on the strength of Alana Greene's game-winning goal.
With the win, GW moves to 3-1 on the season after picking up three consecutive road wins.
The Buff and Blue started out with two quick goals from Ioanna Mantzouratos and Amber Germer.
Throughout the course of 12 minutes, Longwood went on to score four unanswered taking the 4-2 lead.
Germer was able to score on a man-up scenario for GW, but the Lancers quickly struck back to rekindle its two-goal advantage.
Catie Perkins found Mantzouratos mid-stride in the final minute of the first half, netting her second goal of the game.
GW and Longwood traded goals at the start of the second-half, however GW still trailed 6-5. Longwood extended their lead to two, but Maddy O'Brien answered, forcing a turnover in GW's offensive half of the field before scoring on a breakaway.
Phoebe Mullarkey tied things up at seven, but GW found themselves down again off another Lancer response.
In transition, Germer made a quick pass to Perkins who scored on a behind-the-back blind shot, tying the game at eight with 13 minutes left in regulation.
Despite heavy defensive traffic, Mantzouratos was able to give GW the lead for the first time since the early stages of the first half.
GW and Longwood each scored in the final minutes of the second half, sending the 10-10 game to sudden-death overtime.
Out of a timeout from Head Coach Jenny Ulehla, Greene cradled past a handful of Lancer defenders to net the game-winning score for GW.
