Senior honored after Buff & Blue Challenge
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington's Faith Weber has been tabbed Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week in recognition of her sterling work in the circle at last weekend's Buff and Blue Challenge.
Weber went 2-0 with her first save of the season on the weekend, posting a 1.75 ERA in 12 innings with 13 strikeouts over three appearances.
On Friday, Weber allowed two runs on four hits over five innings in a 7-2 win over Winthrop before pitching in both games Saturday to help the Colonials secure a doubleheader sweep.
Weber earned a save vs. Rider, striking out the side in the seventh inning of a 5-2 win. Later, the senior from New Jersey pitched a six-inning complete game vs. Monmouth, allowing just one earned run on two hits in a 10-2 victory.
In addition, Weber posted a pair of extra-base hits to help her cause, including a game-ending grand slam in the triumph over the Hawks as part of a five-RBI effort to set a career high.
Weber was previously honored by the A-10 as Player of the Week on Feb. 24. She becomes the first Colonial to win both conference weekly awards.
Weber's all-around excellence has been a major asset for the Colonials this season. She's already set career highs as a pitcher in wins (six), starts (12), complete games (six) and strikeouts (46) while also collecting 15 hits with six of them for extra bases.
Weber and the Colonials will be busy this week with six games on the Mount Vernon Campus, starting with Tuesday's 3 p.m. start vs. No. 19 Virginia Tech.
