Colonials to face Blue Devils on Saturday

LEADING OFF: The George Washington lacrosse team will face its third straight opponent on the road on Saturday, traveling to Durham, N.C., to go head-to-head with Duke at 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT: In its second road test of 2020, the Colonials put up a fight at Mount St. Mary's, but ultimately fell, 11-10, in overtime on Saturday. The two squads traded goals throughout the game, until the Mount pulled away by one with 7:05 to play. With the clock ticking down, senior co-captain Katie Quinn was able to dart around the Mount defense and tie the game at 10 to push the contest to overtime. In the extra frame, the Mount came out hot, quickly snagging the draw and scoring at the 4:26 mark to claim the 11-10 victory.

SPREADING THE WEALTH: Five Colonials found the back of the net at Mount St. Mary's. Quinn finished the day with a team-high four goals while fellow senior Morgan McDonnell and sophomore Tori Hampton scored two each. Ioanna Mantzouratos and Amber Germer also added to the Colonials' offensive effort with one goal apiece. For Germer, the goal marked the first of her collegiate career.

OFF THE DRAW: The Buff and Blue finished their day at the Mount with a 13-10 advantage off the draw. Senior co-captain Caroline Kiernan paced the squad with six, while Catie Perkins snagged four of her own.

ABOUT DUKE: The Blue Devils sit at 2-2 on the season and are coming off a 16-15 loss to No. 15 Navy last week. Duke's two victories came against Gardner-Webb, 22-1, and Wofford, 20-5. Caroline DeBellis paces the squad with 21 points (10g, 11a), while Sophia LeRose tops the team between the pipes with her 12 saves and 15.34 GAA.

ROAD HEAD: The Colonials will host local foe American on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. for their home opener at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
