Men's Basketball Prepares for William & Mary on National TV
12/13/2020 5:28:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Following the cancellation of GW's home game against South Carolina on Monday night, the men's basketball team has rescheduled William & Mary for the same time slot and broadcast details. The Buff and Blue will take on the Tribe at 7 p.m. at Smith Center, with Dave Ryan and Bob Wenzel on the call for CBSSN.
The game will mark William & Mary's first game since November 28th, an 86-78 loss at Old Dominion. GW is 1-1 at home this season, having won its last game in DC, 85-69, last Saturday against Coppin St.
LAST TIME OUT
Neither side led by more than 10 at any point and the game featured 12 ties and 10 lead changes, but GW came up just short in a 68-65 loss at Delaware. The Buff and Blue had a chance to tie it on the game's final possession but a pair of 3-point tries from James Bishop and Maceo Jack missed their mark. Prior to those misses, GW had connected on 9-of-16 three-point tries, including 2-of-4 from Bishop and 3-of-4 from Jack.
HE'S HEATING UP
Despite a pair of setbacks in GW's last two games, Jamion Christian's preferred method of scoring -- 3-point shooting -- hasn't been a problem. Christian has asked Jamison Battle, James Bishop, Maceo Jack and Sloan Seymour to take 80-90% of GW's threes, and the group has responded. Over the last two games the foursome has connected on 17-of-33 3-pointers, good for a combined .515 3-point field goal percentage.
THE BISHOP'S GAMBIT
James Bishop is currently second in the A-10 in assists per game (7.2) while his assist average ranks 16th in the country entering play Sunday. Bishop's two nine-assist games this season mark career highs, while the sophomore transfer standout has notched 20+ points in four of five games he's logged for the Buff and Blue after never hitting 20+ last season at LSU. He's scoring at all three levels and has connected on 6-of-12 3s over the last two games.
MORE FROM MOYER
In addition to James Bishop, who joined GW from LSU, Matt Moyer is another Power 5 transfer starting for GW this season. The grad student is making up for lost time in a career-best season in Foggy Bottom. Moyer's 10.0 points per game and 9.4 rebounds per game both mark career highs, while his rebounding average ranks third in the A-10. Moyer's numbers were goosed by arguably the best game of his career in a career-high 19-point, 11-rebound effort in GW's win against Coppin State. That double-double was his first since 2017.
KICKING GLASS
Matt Moyer isn't the only member of the Buff and Blue doing work on the boards this season. Jamison Battle (7.8 rpg) and Chase Paar (7.6 rpg), yet another soph, are just behind Moyer in the A-10 in rebounding to comprise the top trio in the conference on the glass. Paar's 16 boards against Coppin State are a conference single-game high so far this season, while Battle's 13 rebounds against the Eagles rank second.
A NEW BATTLE
Jamison Battle ranks 16th in the A-10 in points per game (15.6), making him one of just four players in the A-10 averaging at least 15 points and seven rebounds this season (Tre Mitchell, UMass: Jordan Miller, GMU; Ryan Daly, SJU). Last year's A-10 leader in 3-point field goals made is showing off a multi-faceted game as a soph.
