WASHINGTON — Men's basketball head coach Jamion Christian has announced the addition of mid-year transfer Hunter Dean to the program. Dean spent the first semester at Southern Mississippi and will be eligible to compete for the Colonials after the Fall 2020 semester.
"We are excited to add Hunter," said Christian. "We recruited him at Siena and love how well we know one another. As we are building, we are looking for people with an incredible drive to impact our program and our university. Hunter will do both. His athleticism and ability to play above the rim will be dynamic on both ends of the floor."
In 11 games as a rookie with the Golden Eagles, Dean averaged 2.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game and set a season best with eight points against William Carey on Nov. 24.
"This will be a great opportunity for me," said Dean. "Coach Christian makes players feel special in his offense. I am an athletic big that can work off the pick and roll and space out the floor. I am not a traditional big."
A native of Mandeville, Louisiana, Dean was a standout performer at Lakeshore High School, averaging 18.4 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game as a senior. In his junior season, Dean had marks of 12.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks per game with sophomore totals of 10.0, 10.7 and 2.5, respectively.
Dean finished his high school career with more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. As a senior, he was tabbed to the LSWA's Class 4A All-Louisiana honorable mention and the All-District 8-4A team where he was the district's MVP.
Dean will major in computer engineering at GW.
