Senior is reigning A-10 Player of the Year
OKLAHOMA CITY - George Washington senior Jenna Cone has been named to the Top-50 Watch List for the 2020 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, the organization announced Wednesday.
A three-time All-Atlantic 10 honoree, Cone has earned her place among the nation's best with her tremendous production in Buff and Blue that has helped vault the program to new heights.
"Jenna has worked extremely hard to put herself in this position to be considered one of the best players in the country," GW head coach Shane Winkler said. "She's even more deserving because she's an even better teammate than she is a great player. I'm looking forward to her and our team having our best season yet."
Last spring, Cone became the program's first A-10 Player of the Year after hitting .381 and setting career highs with 20 home runs and 67 RBIs to power the Colonials to a share of their first conference title and postseason berth.
Cone's home run total equaled an A-10 record and ranked 11th in the nation, and she also ranked in the top 50 nationally in RBIs, hits (72), total bases (148), slugging percentage (.783) and on-base percentage (.490). The California native was recognized as an All-American by Softball America, in addition to being honored on the All-ECAC First Team and NFCA All-Region Second Team.
Recently included on Softball America's list of the top 100 collegiate players in the country, Cone enters her final season ranked first nationally with 187 career RBIs and fourth with 50 career home runs. Both totals are already program records.
Cone was the lone A-10 student-athlete recognized with the preseason honor. She was previously recognized on USA Softball's watch list before the 2018 season.
Cone and the Colonials kick off the spring on Feb. 6 in Mexico with a doubleheader vs. BYU and Utah Valley at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge.
