1/18/2020 8:36:00 PM | Men's Basketball
AMHERST, Mass. — The heavy snow outside the Mullins Center did not affect the hot-shooting Colonials who hit 25-of-49 from the field and made 95 percent from the free throw line to secure their second straight A-10 victory, a 75-51 win over UMass on Saturday afternoon.
Redshirt senior Armel Potter led the Colonials with 22 points and five assists in 35 minutes. Junior Maceo Jack added 20 points on 4-of-7 from the outside. First-year Jameer Nelson Jr. chipped in 14 points and tied classmate Jamison Battle with seven rebounds.
The Colonials held UMass to 36 percent from the field and 5-of-24 from the outside.
GW led 7-2 early in the contest before UMass scored eight of the next 10 points. From that point, the Colonials finished the half on a 30-13 run and led 39-23 lead at the half.
In the second, GW scored the first six points, but a 19-5 run by the Minutemen cut the lead to 50-42 with 11:40 remaining. Midway through the half, GW went on a 10-0 run to push its lead back to 18 (60-42) as part of a 25-9 spurt to end the game.
Tre Mitchell was one of three Minutemen in double figures with 13 points. Carl Pierre added 11 points and Sean East II had 10 in the loss.
The Colonials will visit Fordham on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before returning to the Smith Center to host Saint Joseph's next Saturday at 4 p.m. Fans can catch the live action on ESPN+ and the TuneIn app.
