NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — GW men's basketball first-year Jamison Battle won his second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award this year after outstanding individual performances on the court for the Colonials.
The Robbinsdale, Minn., native averaged a double-double (19.0 ppg and 10.0 rpg) in a pair of conference matchups last week.
Battle started the week with an 18-point, 10-rebound performance at Saint Louis, connected on 3-of-6 from the outside and made all seven chances from the charity stripe in 38 minutes played.
On Saturday, it was Battle who jump-started an 8-0 run for the Colonials that eventually knotted the halftime score (32-32) by burying a 3-pointer from the corner at the buzzer. Battle's 20 points tied a season-best that he set in the previous home game vs. St. Bonaventure on Jan. 5.
For the week, Battle shot 43.5% from the field and held a 42.9 clip from 3-point territory.
The last Colonial to win two A-10 Rookie of the Week awards in the same season was Yuta Watanabe (Dec. 29, March 9) during the 2014-15 season. Battle is the 13th Colonial all-time to win multiple weekly rookie awards. If he adds another award this season, he will become the sixth GW player to win three weekly honors in a season. Yinka Dare holds the GW record for the most A-10 rookie awards with nine during the 1992-93 season.
