Men's Water Polo Sweeps to Start MAWPC Play

Colonials won at Fordham and Wagner on Saturday
NEW YORK - Andras Levai scored the game's last four goals to push GW men's water polo past No. 16 Fordham, 9-8, on Saturday morning in a thrilling Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference opener.
Later, the 19th-ranked Colonials completed the doubleheader sweep by knocking off Wagner, 14-8, paced by a four-goal effort from Andrew Mavis.
With the doubleheader sweep, the Buff and Blue improved to 11-3 on the season.
GW 9, Fordham 8: The Colonials surged to a comeback victory over the Rams behind Levai's heroics at Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
After Fordham took an 8-4 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter, GW reeled off five straight scores to win it.
Mavis started the run by scoring with 13 seconds left in the third, and Levai kept it going with four in a row in a four-minute span to begin the fourth.
Levai tied it at 8 with 4:30 left and then put the Buff and Blue ahead for the first time 22 seconds later. The Colonials locked down from there, holding the Rams scoreless over the final 8:37 to claim a one-goal victory.
Levai finished with five goals and two assists, while Mavis scored a pair and drew a team-high five ejections. First-years Chris Lee and Antonin Kralj also netted goals for the Buff and Blue.
Gabriele Simonti led the defensive effort with three steals and two field blocks, and Matt Taylor tallied 11 saves between the pipes.
GW 14, Wagner 8: Mavis led seven different scorers as the Buff and Blue dispatched the Seahawks in the nightcap at Spiro Sports Center.
The game was tied at 3 before GW scored four of five goals in the second quarter to find separation. The Colonials outscored Wagner in each of the final three periods to earn the comfortable victory.
Lee stuffed the stat sheet with two goals, four assists, three steals, three ejections drawn and a field block, while Levai added to his team-leading point total with two goals and four assists.
Simonti chipped in three goals, and Kralj, Henry Maas and DJ Davis also scored.
Taylor stopped nine shots to pick up another win in net.
