Colonials set for three games on weekend road trip
The 19th-ranked Colonials will head to New York City on Saturday for a split doubleheader at No. 16 Fordham (10 a.m.) and Wagner (7:30 p.m.). They'll finish the weekend at La Salle on Sunday with an 11 a.m. start.
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW closed the Bucknell Invitational last Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of Johns Hopkins and Salem to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Andras Levai and Andrew Mavis scored eight goals apiece on the day to cap a 2-2 weekend for the Colonials.
LEADING LEVAI:Â Levai has now scored a team-leading 45 goals through 12 games, and the junior from Hungary also paces the Colonials with 18 assists.
With 63 points on the season, Levai has 312 for his career, which ranks ninth in program history. He already owns two of the program's top 10 single-season point totals after piling up 110 points as a first-year in 2017 (10th) and 139 points (fourth) last fall.
BLOCK PARTY:Â Gabriele Simonti tallied three more field blocks in the 21-10 win over Salem to give him 16 through GW's first 12 games. That total already ranks tied for eighth on the program's all-time list.
Simonti etched his name in GW history on Sept. 15 when he broke the program single-game record with seven field blocks in the 13-12 win over then-No. 12 Princeton. The junior from Italy also leads the Colonials in steals (13) this season.
SCOUTING FORDHAM:Â The Rams have vaulted into the national rankings with a 9-2 start to the season that includes a pair of wins over ranked foes. They picked up three MAWPC victories last weekend at the Bucknell Invitational, highlighted by a 17-15 defeat of the host Bison.
GW will welcome both Fordham and Wagner to Smith Center Pool for a doubleheader on Nov. 9.
SCOUTING WAGNER:Â The Seahawks sit at 1-10 through three weekends of play after dropping a pair of MAWPC contests at Bucknell. Six of their 11 games have been vs. teams currently ranked in the national top 20.
SCOUTING LA SALLE:Â The Explorers have already eclipsed last season's win total in a 5-8 start. They are coming off a 2-2 weekend with wins over Mercyhurst and Washington & Jefferson.
UP NEXT:Â The Colonials have next weekend off before hosting La Salle on Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. for their home opener in a match to be played at The St. James in Springfield, Va. They'll face No. 17 Bucknell in the same pool two days later.
