Justin Grady recorded first career shutout for the Colonials
WASHINGTON – GW men's soccer battled American to a scoreless draw on Monday afternoon at Reeves Field.
The Colonials dictated play for much of the match and outshot the Eagles, 20-8, but were unable to crack the scoreboard over 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods.
First-year keeper Justin Grady stopped both shots he faced for the Buff and Blue in recording his first collegiate shutout.
NOTEWORTHY
- GW's 20-8 shot advantage included an 8-0 edge in the opening half. The Colonials also had the upperhand on overtime chances, producing five shots in extra time to two for the Eagles.
- GW forced American keeper Jake Agnew to make eight saves in his clean sheet. Sandro Weber accounted for three of the Buff and Blue's shots on goal, including their lone on-target look in overtime.
- GW's defense limited American's scoring opportunities from start to finish. Grady made his first save in the 56th minute and then added another in the 59th minute.
- GW also had a 12-6 advantage in corner kicks for the match.
- First-year Carlyle Smart earned his first career start vs. the Eagles and logged 86 minutes at forward.
