Colonials to wrap non-conference slate at home vs. Monmouth

EMMITSBURG, Md. – In its penultimate non-conference game of the season, the George Washington lacrosse team suffered a 17-9 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mount came out hot from the jump, scoring five straight goals in the game's opening six minutes. GW was able to halt Mount St. Mary's attack with a strike from Ioanna Mantzouratos, but the home squad continued to press and responded with another pair of goals to extend their advantage to 7-1. The Colonials found the back of the net three more times, with the Mount striking twice more, to trail 9-4 at the break.

Mount St. Mary's continued its momentum in the second half, racking up eight more goals, while holding GW to five, to finish the day with 17-9 victory.

NOTEWORTHY
• The junior duo of Christine Weber and Katie Quinn paced the squad with three goals apiece. For Weber, the hat trick marked a single-game high. Morgan McDonnell, Mantzouratos, and Maddy O'Brien added to GW's offensive effort with one goal each.
• Despite falling 17-9, GW held a 21-13 advantage in ground balls and an 11-7 edge in caused turnovers. The Mount was the stronger squad off the draw (15-13), while the two teams were even with 31 shots each.
• Sophomore keeper Jenna Oler played all 60 minutes in the cage, faced 27 shots and made 10 saves.
• Junior captain Caroline Kiernan caused a game-high five turnovers in today's matchup.

The Colonials will return home on Saturday to host Monmouth at the GW Lacrosse Field at the Mount Vernon Campus for their non-conference finale at 1 p.m.
