Softball slugger became program's all-time home run leader

Cone capped an amazing week at the plate for GW softball on Sunday with a go-ahead grand slam in the sixth of inning of a 5-4 win over Manhattan on the Mount Vernon Campus.
With the 37th home run of her career, the junior from California became the program's all-time leader in long balls.
For the week, Cone hit .636 (14-for-22) with five homers and three doubles, good for a 1.455 slugging percentage, to help the Colonials finish a perfect 7-0 and improve to 18-3 overall. She drove in 17 runs and scored 14 times in all.
In recognition of that excellence, Cone was also honored Monday as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the second time this season and the fifth time in her career.
Cone had at least one hit, RBI and run in all seven games, highlighted by three three-hit games. She was particularly locked in for a pair of wins over Manhattan. In Saturday's 10-1 victory over the Jaspers, she went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. She followed up with three more hits in Sunday's finale, including her third career grand slam.
