WASHINGTON -Â GW cross country hits the course one final time this fall at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Friday, hosted by Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. The women's team will compete as a whole, while the men will send two individuals to the competition.
RACE FORMAT:Â Women's 6k race at 11 a.m. followed by Men's 10k race at 12 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW women's team broke the program record with its second-place finish at the A-10 Championship two weeks ago. The Colonials had three All-Conference performers by virtue of their top-15 finishes in Suzanne Dannheim (2nd), Margaret Coogan (5th) and Mariah Moro (14th). The men finished 12th as a squad with first-year James Glockenmeier placing third among rookie competitors.
ABOUT THE REGIONAL:Â The women's program finished 14th at last year's competition, the best result in program history. Dannheim led the way with a 23rd-place finish overall. The women, who have been ranked as high as seventh in the Mid-Atlantic poll this year, enter Friday's race ranked ninth. Neither the men nor women have ever cracked the top 10 at the regional race.
INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS: Dannheim has led the pack with two individual wins this year and a second-place finish at the A-10 Championship. Earlier this year, she set a PR in the 6k at the Lehigh course in October with a time of 20:20.8, the second-fastest 6k time in program history. The Jacksonville, Fla., native is looking to qualify for a national meet in the second straight season after doing so in the 3000m Steeplechase during the outdoor track campaign in the spring.
