GW looking to build off strong showing three weeks ago
WASHINGTON -Â GW cross country is back in action this weekend for its penultimate race of the regular season, taking part in the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa., on Saturday. The women start the day with Gold 6k race at 11:45 a.m., followed by the men in the Brown 8k at 12:15 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT:Â Suzanne Dannheim earned her first career individual cross country win at the Mason Invitational as the women's team posted a strong second-place finish in a field of A-10 competitors. Margaret Coogan and Mariah Moro both PR'd to give the Colonials three finishers in the top seven.
The men's team was led by Jack Conlon, who crossed the finish line in ninth, while six Colonials competed in the first 8k race of their respective careers and all finished in the top 50. The men finished fourth in the A-10 heavy field despite the youthfulness of the squad.
MOVING ON UP:Â Thanks to their performance at the Mason Invitational, the men made their first appearance in the regional rankings last week, coming in at No. 12 and holding steady this week. The women, who earlier this year posted the highest regional ranking in program history at No. 9, are the highest ranked A-10 team in the region at No. 15.
ABOUT THE RACE:Â The Paul Short Run enters its 46th year of competition and features a day full of racing with approximately 6,000 student-athletes from over 450 colleges and high schools. The women are among 44 teams in the "Gold" flight featuring A-10 competitors Duquesne, George Mason, La Salle, Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's. The men's "Brown" race is made up of 47 universities, including Duquesne and VCU from the A-10.
