The sophomore guard had 23 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Saint Joseph’s
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After leading the GW men's basketball team to a road win at Saint Joseph's in its Atlantic 10 opener on Sunday, Terry Nolan Jr. was honored by the league as Co-Player of the Week on Monday.
Nolan turned in one of the finest performances of his young career in a 70-56 come-from-behind victory, recording his first double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds. The 6-foot-2 sophomore was a force on both ends, grabbing all 12 of his rebounds on the defensive end while connecting on 5-of-11 field goals, including 3-of-7 three-pointers. The Baltimore native also knocked down a career-high 10 free throws on 12 attempts to lead a strong effort at the charity stripe, as GW hit 19-of-22 freebies.
The Colonials overcame a 32-25 halftime deficit thanks in part to Nolan's 15 second-half points and a strong collective defensive effort. A preseason A-10 All-Defensive selection, Nolan had two blocks and a steal to help limit the Hawks to 32 percent shooting, including just 26 percent in the second half. He provided what was perhaps the play of the game when with the score tied at 52-52 and 4:24 remaining, he blocked 6-foot-10 forward Anthony Longpre's layup attempt, which turned into a go-ahead bucket for Maceo Jack on the other end. The Colonials carried that momentum into an 18-4 run to win going away.
This marks the second time Nolan has been honored by the A-10, and first as Player of the Week. He received Co-Rookie of the Week honors once during the 2017-18 season. For his efforts, Nolan was also named Colonial of the Week.
