Senior to represent Atlantic-10 in elite tournament
SERVING FIRST: George Washington women's tennis senior Maria Siopacha will represent the Atlantic 10 at this week's Oracle ITA Masters, beginning on Thursday, September 20 in Malibu, California. Entering its fourth year of existence, the Oracle ITA Masters has quickly established itself as one of the premier events on the collegiate tennis calendar. Invitations were sent out to one man and one woman from each Division I conference to participate, with criteria similar to the NCAA Tournament being used.
FORMAT: The 2018 Oracle ITA Masters will feature a 32-player singles draw per gender, with each participant guaranteed two matches. The tournament will also include a 32-team mixed-doubles event, with players of the same conference partnered up. Siopacha will play with Dayton's Jordan Benjamin.
STRENGTH FROM SIOPACHA: As the 2018 A-10 Co-Performer of the Year, Siopacha earned a spot in the ITA regional rankings as the Atlantic's No. 19 player after a standout season where she garnered a trio of All-Conference honors and tallied a 19-9 record playing exclusively at the No. 1 position. The Limassol, Cyprus, native, finished the spring season on an eight-match win streak, including a 4-0 mark against conference opponents, and paced the team with a 19-11 doubles record.
SIGHTS SET: "For me competing at the Oracle ITA Masters is a very big honor," said Siopacha. "It is the first time in my entire college career to get a such a prestigious invitation and I could not be more excited. It makes me proud for everything I have achieved so far and for all the hard work I have put in these last three years. I hope I can represent myself, my team, and my school, as best as I can."
